About Cranial Technologies

Cranial Technologies is a leading provider of cranial shaping orthoses for plagiocephaly treatment (flat head syndrome) in infants and has helped reshape the lives of over 400,000 children since 1986.

In 1998, Dynamic Orthotic Cranioplasty®, known as the DOC Band®, became the first cranial helmet cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for plagiocephaly treatment, and a few years later, for plagiocephaly treatment associated with post-surgical correction.

Today, the DOC Band® is supported by over 35 years of documented clinical research. Before and after DOC Band helmet therapy examples

Cranial Remolding Orthosis with the DOC Band®

Today, it's estimated that nearly 1 in 2 infants have some degree of plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome). The condition is usually caused by prolonged pressure to the head from back sleeping and convenience devices (strollers, smart sleepers, car seats, etc.). Flat spots can also be caused by natural factors like limited space in utero, multiple births (twins), or premature babies that spend time in NICU.

Graphic showing how treatment with the DOC Band works

The DOC Band® gently corrects your baby's head shape overtime by applying holding pressures to areas of the head without flatness. This actively redirects head growth and allows parts of the head with flatness to fill out, resulting in a desired symmetrical head shape.

Precise Head Shape Assessments using Digital Surface Imaging®(DSi®) Technology

Our Digital Surface Imaging® (DSI®) is a safe, specialized imaging system that creates a detailed 3D picture of your baby’s head shape. This high-resolution image technology allows our experienced clinical team to spot even the smallest irregularities. With this precise picture, we custom design a comfortable helmet that actively guides your baby’s head shape to a more symmetrical shape.
